Miller girls clinch share of 5th straight SWC championship

The Lady Cardinals have been as dominant as you could ask for in conference play after wins last week against Stockton and Pierce City. They sit at an undefeated 7-0 in conference with just one final senior night matchup against Marionville remaining this week.
“We want to get over the hump this year," said Miller senior Rose Hill. "We want to win sectionals and get past quarterfinals and make it to the Final Four and that starts with a conference championship.”
Last week began on Tuesday as they traveled for a super night in Stockton. This essentially acted as the SWC championship as the Lady Tigers entered the game 6-0, with Miller 5-0 at the time.
Miller jumped out early as the defense of the Lady Cardinals shut down the Lady Tigers holding them to just four points in the opening quarter. Miller senior Rose Hill was electric, hitting a pair of threes and assisting on a few more from freshman Loghann Leivan. The Lady Cardinals wrapped up the opening period on another nice run and took a 21-4 lead after the opening quarter.
Stockton went on a 6-2 run, but still trailed 30-10 into the break.
Despite a run by the Lady Tigers in the third quarter, the 20-point deficit proved to be too much for Stockton and Miller rolled to a 50-30 victory.
Rose Hill and Loghann Leivan led the they way for the Lady Cardinals with 18 and 16 points respectively.
"We are playing really good defense right now and that helps us not worry about a tough night offensively," said coach Ryan White. "We will still be in the game because we won't let you do what you want either.”
The week concluded the next day against Pierce City, as the Lady Cardinals topped the Lady Eagles 58-39. Miller's defense put on another clinic, holding the opposition under 40 points for the 20th time this season in 25 games.
The Lady Cardinals move to 21-4 on the year and are riding a six game win streak. They hosted Marionville Tuesday night to conclude their regular season. District play will begin on Feb. 23 where they will be the top seed, awaiting the winner of Osceola and Ash Grove.
