Miller Lady Cardinals headed to state sectionals with lopsided win over Ash Grove Lady Pirates

The Class 2 District 11 girl’s basketball tournament was dominated by the Miller Lady Cardinals, as they won the school’s first district title since 2016, defeating Ash Grove handily, 52-31.
Miller won its semifinal game over Verona 70-48, with freshman Claudia Hadlock leading the way with 28 points, followed by 18 for fellow freshman Kaylee Helton. The Lady Cardinals led Verona 20-5 after the first quarter and 36-21 at the half. A 16-0 run in the fourth quarter squelched any chance Verona had at making a comeback, with Miller earning the win 70-48.
The championship win over Ash Grove gave Miller 15 straight wins, as they have peaked at the right time of the season and will play in the Class 2 State Sectionals on Wednesday, Feb. 27 against Wheaton (21-7), at Carthage High School. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m.
In the district championship game, Hadlock and Helton combined for 36 points to lead the young Lady Cardinals.
