Monett powerlifting team places 6th overall at state, McCallister breaks girls state deadlift record

The Monett High School powerlifting team took 17 members to the state competition on March 4, at Glendale High School in Springfield.
Seven members of the team placed in the top three in state:
Boys:
Class 185-     Konner Poynter (third place);
Class 210-    Daven Madrid (third place);
Class 250-    Jordan Thompson (State Champion);
Girls:
Class 135-    Katherine Simmons (State Champion);
Class 145-     Karlee McCallister (State Champion);
Class 175-     Emily Hinojosa (second place) and Emmah Mayberry (third place)
The team came away with a sixth place finish overall Katherine Simmons was State Champion in Class 135 and McCallister was State Champion in squat and deadlift and broke the previous Class 145 deadlilft record which was 320 pounds held by Rebecca Green from McDonald County High School and set in 2019. McCallister now holds the state record at 345 pounds.
Senior leader Jordan Thompson placed first in all three categories: bench, squat and deadlift for Class 250. He recently signed his letter of intent to attend Ottawa University. Thompson is the first athlete in the area to receive a scholarship for powerlifting. In the program at Ottawa University, the athletes have the opportunity to not only compete at the national level, but internationally as well.
