The Mt. Vernon Mt’neers came into the week riding a two-game win streak after defeating Reeds Spring and Clever on the week of the snowstorm, but they were faced with their most difficult pair of games since the Blue and Gold where they took on two 20-win teams in Nixa and Ash Grove.
They first hosted Marshfield where they extended their win streak to three after a 53-45 win over the Blue Jays, Tuesday night. Friday night the challenge got even tougher as the Springfield Catholic Fightin’ Irish came to town for homecoming. Mt. Vernon battled hard and gave the Irish all they wanted and more, but Catholic eventually spoiled homecoming 61-53.
The split week moves the Mt’neers to 5-17 for the season. They were back in action Tuesday as they traveled to Cassville before returning home Friday to take on McDonald County.
Lady Mt’neers
The Lady Mt’neers did not fare as well this week as they dropped two hard fought battles. They opened the week with a 40-36 loss to rival Aurora, who exacted their revenge from a 45-38 loss in the Pink and White tournament back in December. The Lady Mt’neers then fell to Springfield Catholic 37-32 in another game that came down to the end.
The Lady Mt’neers move to 10-10 on the year with three opportunities to bounce back this week with home games against Cassville on Monday, and Buffalo on Tuesday. They will cap off the week Thursday at home against McDonald County.
