Mt. Vernon’s Heisner awarded medals at state track meet

Mt. Vernon sophomore Sadie Heisner qualified in four events, the 100m hurdles, the pole vault, long jump and triple jump, for the Class 3 state track championships, which were held Saturday, May 25, in Columbia. Once she was finished, she had secured a top eight finish in three of those events, which qualified her for All-State honors.
Her best placement came in the pole vault, where she finished fourth overall, with a vault of 11 feet. Heisner took sixth place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.29 seconds. Her third event, the triple jump, she took seventh overall, with a leap of 35’4.75”.
“i am happy with my day,” said Heisner afterward. “I’m really happy that my sprained ankles held out to the end.”
On the Mt. Vernon boy’s side, the 4x800 meter relay team finished in 11th place, with a time of 8:33.42. Team members were Kelly Vaughn, Tucker Bittick, Tristan Gaddis and Sam Herbert.
Vaughn finished in 12th place with a time of 2:06.83, while Gaddis claimed 10th place in the 3200m run with a time of 10:39.69.
