The Mt. Vernon Rotary Club has had a very busy 30 days. With the school year winding down, Rotary members have been involved in several service projects involving the local students in Mt. Vernon School system.
The first was a new project which sponsored three bus loads of Mt. Vernon seventh grade students, eight teachers and the bus drivers on a field trip to Jefferson City with snacks provided by the First Christian Church. They toured the Penitentiary, the State Capitol to learn about state government, had pizza, ice cream and a visit to a candy store.  Several students gave a presentation of their field trip at a recent Rotary meeting.
Next up was the 3rd Annual Car Show on Saturday April 29. It was reportedly a great success with the weather cooperating and 70 vehicles entered. With support from local sponsors who helped make the show a great fundraiser, the proceeds were awarded in the form of scholarships to six Mt. Vernon High School seniors on Monday, May 1.
The scholarship award recipients this year were Maddy Cook, Bella Mosely, Lily Davis, Jordan Duncan, Allie Schubert and Jenna Delay. Their involvement as Interact students and volunteer service to various Mt. Vernon Rotary projects makes these awards possible.
Lastly, MVHS National Honor Society members Shelby Gray, Amari Tudor and Danielle Salas shared their spearheading efforts to provide food and basic necessities to food insecure students through the High School Food Pantry. Rotarians donated several boxes of food items for their cause.
