Following COVID-19 exposure, squad will not play over the next two weeks

The Mt. Vernon R-5 girls varsity volleyball team is in quarantine for the next two weeks following an exposure to a COVID positive individual. As such, some changes have been made to the team’s schedule.
Chris Johnston, assistant principal and activities director at Mt. Vernon High School, said the C and JV volleyball teams played at Seneca on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and will play at Webb City on Thursday, Sept. 10, but the varsity would not play at those times.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Freshman Volleyball Tournament at Rogersville will continue.
All matches have been canceled for Monday, Sept. 14; the teams were supposed to play at Monett that day. Finally, the C and JV teams will play at Carl Junction on Tuesday, Sept. 15. All weekday matches start at 5 p.m.
The district’s volleyball team isn’t the only group affected by the exposure. Last Friday night, the Mt’neer football team, who wound up victorious in the end regardless, was without three players thanks to the same exposure.
