Mt'neer first baseman Brayden Jameson holds onto the ball to get the East Newton Patriot out at first. The host Mt'neers managed to keep the Patriots at bay until the final out to get the win, 3-2.

After a 14-13 record a year ago, the Mt’neers have been off to a fantastic start this season. After defeating Cassville and Seneca in the Cassville tournament, the Mt’neers won their first two games last week before falling to Cassville in extra innings Monday.
The week opened with a narrow 3-2 win against East Newton at Spirit of ’76 Park on Monday. The Mt’neers then extended their season opening win streak Thursday to 4-0 with a 9-1 dismantlement of Lamar. The Mt’neer win streak ended at four games Monday night in Wildcat country as Cassville exacted their revenge against Mt. Vernon with a 4-3 win over the visiting Mt’neers in extra innings.
Mt. Vernon moves to 4-1 on the year and will have a busy rest of the week as they played host to Monett, Tuesday, before Billings comes to town Thursday and the Parkview Vikings make the trip west from Springfield, Friday.
