MV boys tennis ends season with second place at districts

The Mt. Vernon boys tennis doubles team of Malachi Hennum and Tyler Moore won both of their sectionals matches on Friday, May 12, by scores of 6-3 and 6-4, advancing them to the state championship tournament this Friday and Saturday, May 19-20, at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield where they finished ninth overall. Moore, Hennum advance to state playoffs in doubles
The Mt. Vernon boys tennis team competed in districts at Monett High School on Tuesday, May 9, and walked away with second place as a team. The doubles team of Malachi Hennum and Tyler Moore won their doubles matches advancing them to sectionals held at Spirit of ’76 Park in Mt. Vernon on Friday, May 12. They then defeated the New Covenant doubles team of Brody Bennett and Aidan Henderson to advance to the state championship tournament which was held on Friday and Saturday, May 19-20, at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. They were paired against Kirksville for the first round and won 6-2 and 6-1. They then moved on to play against Clayton and Trenton, but were not able to win those matchups.  Overall, the team placed ninth overall.
“I am very proud of all the hard work they put in, they did great,” said tennis coach Tom Cox.
