The Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen’s Personnel Committee’s pick for the next Mt. Vernon city clerk was named at the board’s meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Melissa Aduddle, the current assistant city clerk in Clever, has been chosen to succeed Shannon Neely, who will retire as city clerk effective Dec. 31 of this year.
After the meeting, Neely said Aduddle would most likely give Clever her two-weeks notice after she was informed that she has the job. After Aduddle leaves Clever, she will come and train with Neely in preparation for her to take over as Mt. Vernon City Clerk in January of 2021.
In other business, the board voted to extend the city’s contract with Clemons Real Estate to Feb. 15, 2021.
The board also agreed to pay $10,080 to Kone Care to maintain the elevators at the former MRC building. Max Springer, city administrator, told the board that the city had agreed to maintain the elevators at the building until Timothy Hogan makes a decision as to whether or not to buy the entire campus— which includes the building. The board had the choice to pay $10,080 as an advanced annual payment for the maintenance, a total of $10,382.40 in two semi-annual payments, or $907.20 per month for 12 months, or a total of $10,886.40. The board chose the one annual payment.
The board also approved the purchase of an upgrade to the sewer jet machine, including a new hose and camera system, for $40,229.34.
Additionally, the board authorized David Hubert, chief of police to advertise for an open position in the police department.
