Norma Dean Hilton

Norma Dean Hilton, 90, of Monett, passed away April 4, 2020, while at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
Hilton was born Sept. 16, 1929 in Baxter Springs, Kan. to the late Edgar Henry Negre and Nellie Aretta (Samples) Negre. After moving to Missouri, the family settled south of Monett. She attended the one room Bethel School before transferring to Monett where she graduated in 1947 from Monett High School.
After graduating she was employed by Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator. Later she worked as a teller for Gillioz Bank and Trust before finishing her working career as Book Keeper for the Hilton Implement Company. She was a member of Monett First Baptist Church for many years. Later moving her membership to the Arnhart Baptist Church in East Purdy.
In 1957, she was united in marriage to Leon Hilton in Springfield. They were blessed with over 62 years of marriage.
She is survived by: husband, Leon of the home; daughter, Marilyn Hilton of Rockingham County, Va.; sons, Steven Hilton of Monett and Robert (Wilma) Hilton of Shell Knob; six grandchildren; sister, Marinell Pennell of Branson; sisters-in-law, Faye Negre of Longview, Wash. and Sue Negre, of Monett. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Edward Negre and Arthur Negre.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, private family services are being held. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
