Phyllis Colleen (Alexander) Moore

Phyllis Colleen (Alexander) Moore, age 83, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, died peacefully at Lawrence County Manor on May 13, 2020, with family by her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  She was born July 12, 1936 in Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of Ewell Clinnis Alexander and Mary Louise (Cagle) Alexander.  She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1954.
Phyllis worked for several years at First National Bank in Mt. Vernon and Union National Bank in Springfield. On June 25, 1955, she married, Hugh Moore, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.  They relocated to Palm Beach County, Florida in 1959 following Hugh’s graduation from the Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy where they remained until returning to Mt. Vernon in 1988.  She raised three children in Florida, keeping busy as a Girl Scout leader, serving on the PTA, and encouraging her children in their numerous activities.  She was also a member of the Junior League of Palm Beach County.  
Phyllis was an avid seamstress and quilter and enjoyed sewing for her family.  She also loved traveling and visited all 50 states, numerous countries in Europe and Israel.  Phyllis loved the outdoors and had a passion for camping, hiking and snow skiing, skiing mountain ranges from Canada to New Mexico and everywhere in between.  Phyllis enjoyed walking on the beach and was always the first one to take off her shoes and wade in the water no matter where she was!  At home on her farm, she enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, her animals, bird watching and star gazing at night.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 65 years, Hugh of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Teresa (Don) Nawalany, DeAnn (Robert) Adler and one son, Gregory (Cindy) Moore; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Glenda Kay Caylor of Mt.Vernon.
Her parents, Ewell and Mary Louise, preceded her in death.
The family’s extreme gratitude goes out to all of the nursing assistants, nurses and staff of Lawrence County Manor and Preferred Hospice for taking such great care of Phyllis during her long illness and for all that you did for both mom and dad!
A funeral service under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mt. Vernon.  Burial followed at the Miller Memorial Gardens in Miller, Missouri
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mt. Vernon in care of the funeral home.
