Raymond Monroe Miller Jr.

Raymond Monroe Miller Jr. passed away Feb. 2, 2020 in Huntsville Texas. He was born in Colorado Oct. 9, 1927, to Ray M. Miller Sr. and Doris M. Cummins.
Miller grew up in the rural foothills of the Rockies, now Lakewood, Colo. While still in high school he worked many full and part-time jobs to support himself. After High School, he joined the Merchant Marines to help in World War II. As a Merchant Marine, he was a radio operator on cargo ships moving war goods across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. After the war, he worked for Midwest Precote Company while participating in the University of Cincinnati’s Engineering Co-op Program, where he earned his degree in civil engineering.
 He married Betty Jo Lear in 1951. They were married for 61 years, until her passing in 2012. He had a very successful career as a civil engineer, company owner and international project manager. He started with road building, but quickly transitioned to building cross-country pipelines. He was a member, elder and board member at the Raymore Christian Church.
He is survived by: daughters, Janis Miller of Clemson, S.C. and Karen (Scott Tomlinson) Hooper, City, Texas; son, Raymond (Val) Miller III of Woodlands, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special friend, Shirley Outlaw of Huntsville, Texas; sister Virginia (Stan) Woodall of Kansas City; brothers, Rolland (Betty) Miller of Lees Summit, Glenn (Barb) Miller of Pell City, Ala.; and sister-in-law, Jerry Miller of Justin, Texas. He was preceded in passing by: brothers, Don Miller and Bob Miller; his parents; and his wife.
Graveside services were held Feb. 10, 2020 in the Spring River Cemetery in Verona under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel.
