Crowds stay in the shade to beat the heat at Red, White & Boom Friday, June 30, at Spirit of ’76 Park in Mt Vernon. It is estimated by Dora Richmond, who has been the chairman of the Red White and Boom committee for nearly 20 years, that anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 guests attended the Fourth of July fireworks celebration. Richmond said that it was a good year for attendance, despite the 90-plus degree heat.
"We didn't know what to expect tonight, there's more people here than we thought there would be." Richmond said.
