Richard “Brent” Neely

Richard “Brent” Neely, age 65, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019, after a long hard fought battle with multiple illnesses.  He was born May 30, 1954, in Monett, Missouri, the son of Richard “Dick” and Pat (Bassore) Neely.
He came to know the Lord and Savor on July 24, 1966, and was a member of the Chesapeake Baptist Church.  Brent was a 1972 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School.  On June 2, 1972, he married Julie (Haase) Neely.  Brent was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa.  He was adored by his grandchildren.  He loved God, his family and his animals.  Brent will always be remembered for his smile and cowboy hat.  Along with being a long time farmer, he was a machinist for the Frisco/Burlington Northern Railroad and 25 years as a Rural Mail Carrier for the USPS.
Brent is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Julie; one son, Clint Neely and his wife, Sharon, of Miller, Missouri; one daughter, Betsy Lusk and her husband, Josh, of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren, Kendall, Conner and Mason Neely and Lucy and Willa Lusk; his father, Richard Neely; two brothers, Bruce (Tonya) Neely and Brian (Teresa) Neely and one sister, Nancy Brown.
Brent was preceded in death by his mother, Pat, and his grandparents.
Per Brent’s request no formal services are planned.  A private graveside will be held at a later date at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the Children’s Miracle Network or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
