ROGER CARSON JONES

Roger Carson Jones, 79, of Springfield passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Aurora. He was born in Jasper County on Friday, July 6, 1945; the son of Charles “Jack” Jones and Martha “Jeanne” (Humphrey) Jones.
After graduating from Pierce City High School in 1963, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he spent nearly 25 years serving his country. He simultaneously continued his higher education, culminating in the earning of his Juris Doctorate in Law from Oklahoma City University. He graduated law school and retired from the Army the same week in 1986.
While in the Army, he became a highly decorated combat soldier and rose to the rank of Major while earning many prestigious awards and medals of honor for his bravery, such as the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Valor, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Parachute Badge and many more. He was a fearless and brave defender of his country, serving in the Vietnam War.
After he retired from the Army, he became a well-regarded defense attorney in southwest Missouri. He profoundly loved his hometown of Pierce City and spent much time and resources giving back to the community.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Montileone; two daughters, Jada Jones and Anliya Jones; two sons, Jason (Kidist) Jones and Jack Jones; and two siblings, David Jones and Michelle Snelling; as well as four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Darney Jones; and one son, James “Jimmy” Jones.
Full military services were held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield on Tuesday, Jan. 7, with Pastor Billy Harvill officiating.
Arrangements were entrusted to the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City and Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield.
