Roger Lee Jackson

Roger Lee Jackson, 83, of Lawrence County, passed away June 2, 2019. He was born Jan. 6, 1936, to Mildred Florence Jackson and Robert Anderson Jackson.
Jackson married Frances Jane Hill in 1956; they were married for 62 years. He went to work for the Springfield Fire Department in 1961. Working a 24 hour on, 24 hour off shift rotation for the wage of $167 a month. He rose to the rank of Battalion Chief before retiring in 1995. As with most firefighters of that era, he worked a second job to help provide for his family. He learned the trade of “laying tile” and worked for a number of years through Superior Tile Company. Including the house he built on acreage in Halltown. Jackson was a member of High Street Baptist Church and later Hillside Baptist Church. Jackson went on several mission trips to assist building structures and in later years volunteered at Mercy Hospital and the Miller School District.
He is survived by: wife; children, Pepper (Brenda) Lynn and Dawn Michelle (Mark) Davidson; brother, Robert Dean; sister, Nancy Irene Smith; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Jackson was preceded in death by: brothers, Harold Eugene, Leonard Leon, Joe Arnold and Bennie Edwin.
A memorial service was held June 7, 2019, in the Hillside Baptist Church, 8366 W. Highway 266, Springfield. A private burial will take place at a later date.
