Roland Edward Swearingen

Roland Edward Swearingen, 90, of Aurora, passed away Sept. 16, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Aurora.  He was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Purdy, to Ward and Opal (Wilson) Swearingen.
Swearingen was a 1946, graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He served in the Missouri National Guard in Aurora for over 20 years retiring with the rank of Sergeant E-7.  He worked for Carnation Milk Company and later for Mid American Dairy in Mt. Vernon as a truck driver.  He was an avid golfer, and loved to work in his yard and garden.  He was a member of the Aurora Eagles and the Church of Christ in Mt. Vernon. In1950, he married Wilma “Buck” Mitchell in Eureka Springs, Ark. She preceded him in death  in 2015.
Swearingen is survived by: daughter Janice (David) Everett of Aurora; sisters Barbara Spilman, Marilyn Baugh, Evelyn Colley and Kay (Dale) Scott all of Mt. Vernon; brother Jack (Dolores) Swearingen of Crane; two grandchildren; and a host of family. He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; sister Jean (Bill) Gambrell; brothers Alvin (Arlene) Swearingen and Jerald (Yvonne) Swearingen.
Visitation was held Sept. 22, 2018, at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora with a memorial service in the funeral home chapel. Burial was at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
