Ruby L. Wilks

Ruby L. Wilks, 90, of Purdy, passed away March 9, 2019, while at Cox South Hospital in Springfield. She was born Sept.  7, 1928, in Monett to the late Lloyd “Pete” and Effie (Henderson) Bennett.
She was a retired teacher having obtained a master’s degree in education, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Purdy, as well as being a part of the 4-H Club, and Future Homemakers of America. She also taught special education in her later years and was a former member of the Barry-Lawrence County Ambulance Board.
Wilks is survived by: son, Mike Higgins of Springfield; daughter, Pam Hemmerling of Flat Rock, Ind.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leo Bennett.
Graveside services were held March 14, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett.
