Sam Dalton

Sam Dalton, 81, of Pierce City, passed away Sept. 5, 2019 after succumbing to injuries sustained from a car accident on Aug. 24. Dalton was born in Washburn, on Oct. 4, 1937 to Clarence and Ona (Carnes) Dalton. He married Joyce Stuflebeam in 1958 after coming home from serving proudly in the U.S. Army in Panama.
He served in many capacities in the churches that he was a member of, the last 20 years at First Baptist in Pierce City. Dalton and his wife traveled the country in their camper and were members of Campers on Missions for many years after retiring. He was a devoted caregiver to Joyce and she preceded in him in death in July, 2018. He loved anything outdoors, fishing, attending car races or being a cheer leader for Pierce City School sports teams.
Surviving are the following: Daughter, Linda (Don) Robert from Glen Carbon, Ill.; sons Gary (Vickie) Dalton of Cedar Lake, Ind. and David (Alice) Dalton of Gillespie, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Geneva Brown of Pierce City; brothers, Vernon Dalton of Riverside, Calif. and Jerry Dalton of Carthage; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife of 60 years; and brother and fishing buddy, J.B Dalton.
Services were held Sept. 9, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Pierce City. Burial followed at Clear Creek Cemetery west of Pierce City.
