Santa comes to town
Throng of merrymakers besiege Mt. Vernon square
An estimated 1,000 people converged on the Mt. Vernon square last Tuesday evening, for the Mt. Vernon Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas on the Square. A total of 26 parade entries were registered, with many more showing up last minute to make the trek to the square in spring-like weather.
Chamber Director Pam Dudley said, in total, the chamber gave away $1,000 worth of prizes to youngsters courtesy of Mirage Pet Products. The evening was further enhanced by the 12 local businesses and non-profits who offered free hot dogs, chili, brownies, hot chocolate, Christmas in a Cup and much more.
The parade culminated on the square, where further entertainment was provided by Covenant Youth Worship, dancing by the Sassy Starlettes, an ugly sweater contest sponsored by ReeceNichols, and visits with Santa himself.
