Senior causes crash on Hwy. 96

Law enforcement and firefighters respond to the scene of a vehicle crash on Highway 96, two miles south of Miller and about one mile west of the Highways 96/39 intersection.
According to a crash report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joseph Adams, 73, of Rich Hill, was driving a Cadillac Escalade eastward on the highway when he attempted to overtake a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia being driven east by Jose Velasco, 56, of Horizon City, Texas. While he was attempting to pass the Freightliner, Adams struck a 2001 Ford F450 being driven westward by Jennifer Beyer, 47, of Miller. A 2023 Subaru Impreza, being driven eastward by Joy Poehl, of Avilla, was also damaged.
Adams, who was not wearing a safety device, was seriously injured in the crash and airlifted to Cox South in Springfield. The others, who were wearing safety devices, were not injured. The Ford F450 and the Escalade were both extensively damaged in the crash and towed from the scene. The Freightliner sustained moderate damage and the Impreza received minor damage; they were both driven from the scene. (Photo by Steve Chapman)
