Shirley Jean Henson

Shirley Jean Henson, 90, of Verona, passed away Sept. 28, 2019, at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Galena to Herschel and Lura (Cloud) Johnson.
She worked at a chicken plant in Aurora, Vaisey Bristol Shoe Factory in Monett and was a nurse’s aide at the Aurora Hospital. She volunteered at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, for six years and the Aurora Christian Center and was a member of the Aurora Baptist Temple. She married Royal Henson in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1970. In 1981 she married Lawrence Henson and he preceded her in 1993.
She is survived by: sons, Roger (Sherry) Henson of Aurora, Michael (Linda) Henson of Springfield and David (Donna) Henson of Galena; brothers, Eddie Johnson of Finley, Ill. and H.J. Johnson of Houston, Texas; sisters, Neomia (Bob)Compton of Santa Clarita, Calif. and Maritta (Jim) Owen of Western Grove, Ark.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Royal and Lawrence; two grandsons; brothers, Paul and Norma Johnson, Leroy and Elba Johnson and Bobby and Sue Johnson; and two sister-in-law’s.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora. Memorials may be made payable to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at
