A new shopping game in Aurora is giving participants the chance to have some fun, win prizes and support local businesses at the same time. The game, called Shop Local Bingo, is based on the popular game of Bingo. Shannon Walker, executive director of the Chamber, explained the rules.
“You visit the businesses on the bingo card,” she said, “make a purchase if required, and get a stamp on that square. Once you have a bingo, place your bingo card in the box at one of the locations and you will be entered to win a gift card. Or you can play blackout bingo and visit all 24 locations and be entered in to win our grand prize; $100 cash, gift basket and gift cards. Weekly bingo winners will be drawn on Wednesdays.”
With the pandemic forcing more people to stay closer to home, Walker said the game seemed like a way to make shopping more enjoyable.
“Due to the sign of our times, we wanted something fun for the businesses and the public to start this holiday shopping season,” she said.
Walker said local shoppers have responded very positively to Shop Local Bingo.
“(It) seems to be good,” she said. “People are shopping locally more these days.”
With many businesses struggling to remain afloat during the pandemic, Walker said Shop Local Bingo is a way to help them by encouraging locals to keep their shopping dollars closer to home.
“Businesses are trying hard to keep going during the COVID pandemic,” she said. “This is a way to not only promote their business but to support our local businesses.”
Shop Local Bingo will continue through Monday, Nov. 30. For more information, call the Aurora Chamber of Commerce at (417) 678-4150.
