Verona voters say ‘yes’ to transportation tax

Verona voters approved a transportation tax during the special election on Nov. 5.
The ballot issue, a sales tax of one-half of one-percent received 19 “Yes” votes and 12 “No” votes, according to results provided by the Lawrence County Clerk’s office.
According to information posted on the “Concerned Citizens of Verona, Missouri” Facebook page, the tax will help to support street repair and maintenance, new street projects, and will pay to replace damaged or stolen street signs. It replaces a recently expired tax.
Also, during the election, voters chose Republican Scott Cupps over Democrat Lisa Kalp for the office of State Representative of the 158th Legislative District. Overall, Cupps tallied 1,841 votes to Kalp’s 387. In Lawrence County, 39 voters chose Cupps, while eight voted for Kalp.
