Wee Willie’s Shipwreck Stew by William Schatz

1 clove of garlic, chopped
2 T. oil
1 cup finely diced onion
1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 cup uncooked rice
5 to 6 cups of water
1 cup finely diced carrots
1 cup diced potatoes
2 T. soy sauce
1 T. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper

In a 10” skillet, brown the garlic in the oil. Remove the garlic. Add the onion and ground beef. Cook until brown, stirring frequently. Add the rice and water. Simmer approx. 30 minutes. Add the carrots and potatoes. Continue simmering until vegetables are tender (about 25 minutes.) Season with soy sauce, salt and pepper. Serves 6.
