Wiley Junior Henson

Wiley Junior Henson, 94, of Reeds, passed away Sept. 3, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Carthage.
Henson was born May 12, 1925, in Aurora, to Wiley and Jennie Henson. He worked as a travel salesman in various industries and retired from Big Surf in Osage Beach. Henson served his country as a sergeant in the Army during WWII.  He was honored as a veteran when he was chosen to participate in the nationally recognized honor flight, where he visited Washington, D.C. to see the memorials of his fallen brothers. Henson also enjoyed camping while traveling and he accomplished a visit to almost every state. He was a dedicated member of Bethany Baptist Church in Carthage. In 1943, he married Leona Mae Spires and together they shared 72 years of marriage before her passing in 2015.
Survivors include: sister, Charlett (Frank) Smith of Reeds; adopted daughter, Rebecca Dockins; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Joyce Halteman; son, Larry Henson; brothers, Clifford Sebiers and Bill Henson; and sister, Burtie Spillers.
Memorial services with military honors was held Sept. 10, 2019, at Bethany Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin.
