WILLIAM “BILL” D. LOCKHART

William “Bill” D. Lockhart, 86, passed away on Jan 17, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Fresno, Calif. on March 12, 1938: the youngest of four children.
He graduated from Fresno City High School and in his early 20s he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Soon after joining the church, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served time in Korea (during the cease fire). During his time there he received pen pal letters from various ladies, one of which was Enga. They eventually met in person. Eventually they developed feelings for each other and after he returned from “War Game” training in Needles, Calif., he asked her to marry him.
They were married in Los Angeles, Calif. on Nov. 14, 1964.
He worked at Fresno State College, first in the Accounting Department and later in the Audio-Visual Department, until they moved in 1979 to Monett.
In Monett, he worked for his church as their full-time custodian for many years. Later he worked in housekeeping at Cox Monett Hospital. He additionally, owned his own locksmith business, where he was known in the local area as “Lockhart the Locksmith”. He also served his church in several callings, for the Stake High Council, councilor under three ward bishops and was later called to be the bishop himself.
He is survived by his wife, Enga Lockhart; his children; Dalesse (Dan) Bowles, Clarissa (Brandon) Kelley and Paul (Melissa) Lockhart; six grandchildren; and their spouses; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shaylee Ehrhardt, as well as his parents and siblings: Barbara, Lee and Ross.
Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the LDS Chapel in Monett followed by interment at Kings Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
