William Vinton “Bill” Howard, Jr.
William Vinton “Bill” Howard, Jr., 79, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Nov. 7, 2018, at the Missouri Veterans Home. He was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Mt. Vernon to William Vinton and Lotha Mae (Cole) Howard, Sr.
Howard was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield for two years. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Vietnam era. He was the owner of Howard’s Conoco in Mt. Vernon and after selling it he worked for Sto’s Truck Stop in Mt. Vernon as a service attendant. Howard was a member of the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon and loved old cars especially Fords. He enjoyed drag racing and stock car racing.
Howard is survived by brother, Bob (Charlotte) Howard of Mt. Vernon and a host of family. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, John Knox Howard.
A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Nov. 13, 2018, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A private burial will be held at the Ozark Prairie Cemetery.
