Winita Mae Prewett of Aurora, Missouri, passed peacefully on April 4, 2024, at 91 years of age. Winita was born December 21, 1932, in Shannon County, Missouri to Ollie and Edna Younger.
Winita and George Melvin Prewett celebrated 51 years of marriage before his passing in 2002. Since that time, she has lived alone and thrived with the help of great neighbors and friends.
Winita held several jobs throughout her life, including deputy clerk in the Lawrence County recorder’s office, assistant in the Lawrence County circuit clerk’s office, and supervisor at Anderson’s Uniforms in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. In 1980, Winita also filed and ran for Lawrence County Recorder of Deeds. While she lost that election, she worked hard and met many friends while campaigning.
Family brought Winita the most pleasure. She was so proud of her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and spoke often of her many other family members.
She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Prewett, both parents, a sister, Wanda Conway, and a brother, Doyle Younger.
Surviving family includes a daughter, Terri and Guy Woodland of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Millicent Woodland of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jennie Custer and Eric of Crane, Missouri, Connor Woodland and Kate of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jessie Hopper and Philip of Springfield, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Reese Custer, Henry, George and Joni Mae Hopper, Owen Woodland and Benjamin Woodland due in May.  Other extended family members include a sister-in-law, Yvonne Younger of Birch Tree, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Robert Prewett of Florissant, Missouri; first cousin, Marie Bryant of Laporte, Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel for friends and family.
