Absconder Hemphill arrested, again, following suspension of sentence
A Springfield man was taken into custody on Sunday, May 19, after allegedly leading the Aurora-Marionville Police Department on a high-speed chase. Darren Hemphill, 57, was booked into the Lawrence County Jail after the pursuit.
According to a posting on the department’s Facebook page, the AMPD attempted a traffic stop on MO 39 near Dyer, and the driver, later identified as Hemphill, refused to stop and led officers on a high-speed pursuit.
According to the posting, the pursuit went down several farm roads and eventually went into Marionville. The AMPD was eventually able to pin the vehicle inside Marionville city limits and arrest Hemphill.
The AMPD stated that Hemphill was wanted by the Missouri Department of Corrections as an absconder and a new charge would be requested against him.
New charges had not been filed against Hemphill as of press time, however, a parole violation hearing from a previous case in which he was prosecuted was scheduled to convene on Monday June 3. Hemphill had previously pleaded guilty on Jan. 26, 2023 to possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property and operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license. He was sentenced to 10 years on the possession charge and four years each on the other two charges, with a suspended execution of sentence and five years of probation.
As of press time, Hemphill remained in the Lawrence County Jail.
