Alfred James Harris

Alfred James Harris, 91, of Mt. Vernon passed away on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born July 20, 1934, in Cherryville, the son of Logan and Myrtle (Bryant) Harris. He was a United States Navy veteran and a truck driver.
On Nov. 1, 1958, he married Fay Hinch in Steelville.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Fay; two daughters, Patty Helton and her husband, Keith, and Becky Davis and her husband, Rob, all of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Jim Harris and his wife, Ellen, of Mt. Vernon; Mike Harris and his wife, Jennifer; and Doug Harris, all of Cape Fair; two sisters, Wilma Doyle of Cuba, and Shirley Henry of Aurora; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, infant Richard Harris, Wayne Harris, and Albert Harris; six sisters, infant Flora Harris, Dana Harris, Reba Carter, Zelma Smith, Doris Hubert and Norma Davis.
A visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with a funeral service which followed at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed at Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be payable to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of the funeral home.
