Aurora’s Koehler accused of multiple sex crimes
Charges include child molestation, possession of child pornography and incest
A former teacher’s aide who worked in the Cassville R-IV School District is currently in custody at the Greene County Jail. Makensie Koehler, 33, was booked into the jail on behalf of the US Marshals Service on Monday, June 24, and indicted in the US District Courthouse in Springfield on Wednesday, June 26. She is facing a federal charge of possession of child pornography and is also charged in Barry County with child molestation and incest.
According to the federal criminal complaint, a detective with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office was informed on March 18 that Koehler was involved in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy. During their investigation, the detective found images of Koehler and the boy engaged in sexual acts.
The detective interviewed a witness who said that he observed the boy and Koehler communicate via Snapchat and Facebook. The detective then secured a warrant to search Koehler’s Snapchat account.
The detective reported finding sexual images of a nude girl under the age of 12. The girl herself was interviewed and said she could not identify the woman who appeared with her in the picture.
Koehler was originally charged in Barry County with possession of child pornography in addition to the child molestation and incest charges. The charge of child pornography was dismissed in Barry County on June 25 due to the superseding charge which was filed against her in federal court. According to the original criminal complaint filed in Barry County against Koehler, she and the victim are related.
Koehler was originally taken into custody in Barry County around May 30 and released on a $10,000 on Friday, June 21, before being taken back into custody on the following Monday. When she was taken into custody the second time, Koehler was residing at an Aurora address.
On June 26, United States Attorney Teresa Moore filed a motion to detain Koehler pending her trial, with responses due to be filed by July 10. As of press time, she remained in custody in the Greene County Jail.
