Twelve schools from around the area converged on Honey Creek Golf Course in Aurora for the annual Houn’ Dawg Tournament, last week. Aurora finished second with a team score of 247 behind only El Dorado Springs who shot a 241.
Three Houn’ Dawgs placed in the top 10 led by junior Luke Stellwagen, who shot a 59, finishing eighth. Senior Sage Welch used back-to-back birdies to salvage a 60, good for ninth place. Senior Dalton Briscoe finished tied with Clever’s Logan Jenkins at 61, to tie for the 10th spot.
“We had 12 schools here today and to come out with a second-place finish was impressive on a day where we got to honor two seniors beforehand," said Aurora coach Kanin Rook. "We had to play a modified version of golf today. We typically play 18 holes, but we only played 12 due to wet conditions on the other side of the course. Being on our home course helped because of the familiarity of what to expect in these odd conditions.”
