Cecil Wayne Lewis

Cecil Wayne Lewis, 80, of Verona, passed away July 21, 2019, at Oak Pointe in Monett. Lewis, son of Willard and Leona (Lyon) Lewis, was born Aug. 19, 1938, in Archie. He was a 1956 Fort Osage High School graduate in Independence, and furthered his education with a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from William Jewel and a bachelor’s in engineering from Columbia College. In 1964, he was married to Judy Rogers.
After graduating college, Lewis worked for the Army Civil Corps of Engineers out of Kansas City, and then transferred to the Department of Defense working with the Civil Engineers and Civil Service where he retired after 33 years at Dyess Air Force Base in 1997 in Abilene, Texas. During his career with DOD he spent 12 years working in Okinawa, Japan at Kadena Air Force Base. He earned several awards for his accomplishments in his career as an engineer.
After his retirement, the couple became full time RV’ers for 15 years. He enjoyed golfing, antique buggies and horse drawn carriages, working with horses, bowling, and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Shrine.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years of Verona; sons, Roger (Susan) Lewis of Lee Summit, and Rob (Donna) Lewis of Aurora; three grandchildren of Blue Springs.
Memorial services were held July 28, 2019, at New Site Baptist Church in Monett. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory in Cassville.
