Creekmore

Monett man shot father 19 times
A Monett man who killed his father by shooting him 19 times in the chest was convicted of first-degree murder and armed criminal action on Wednesday, July 31. Michael Lee Creekmore, 29, was found guilty by the jury following a three-day trial at the Barry County Justice Center. The jury deliberated for about two hours and 45 minutes before returning the verdict of guilty.
Creekmore killed his father, Robert Creekmore, on Sept. 5, 2022. According to the probable cause statement in the case, Monett Police officers were called to the scene where they found Robert lying dead in the street. Michael was also at the scene, and he told the officers that he had shot his father.
At the Monett Police Station, Michael told the officers in a post-Miranda interview that he shot his father after he (Robert) attacked him. He said that Robert had tried to start a fight with him, and he (Michael) tried to walk away, but Robert tried to kick his feet out from under him and punched him in the head. When Robert advanced on him again, Michael said, he pulled out his handgun and started firing. An officer asked Michael how many times he shot at Robert, and Michael replied he fired every round in the gun (the gun held 18 rounds in the clip plus one in the chamber).
Michael also said that Robert had abused him his entire life; the probable cause statement reported that there was an extensive history of abuse at the residence.
As of press time, Michael continued to be held in custody at the Stone County Jail, where he’d been held since July 11 of this year (he’d previously been held at the Barry County Jail prior to its being condemned).
Creekmore will be sentenced at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Barry County Justice Center.
