FRANCES MARIE SCARBROUGH KERR

Marie Kerr, age 87, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri passed away at 10:26 a.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Bel Oak Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri; after a two-year battle with dementia, with her family by her side. Marie was born March 5, 1937, in South Greenfield, Missouri; the daughter of Grover Spencer and Frances Adeline (Patten) Scarbrough.
Marie was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. On May 15, 1956, Marie and Roger were married in Mt. Vernon. After getting married, they packed up and moved to Oxnard, California. Marie was a Psychiatric Technician with the Camarillo State Hospital in Camarillo, California. After 25 years of service, Marie retired due to an injury that occurred while working with residents in the workshop. Marie and Roger moved back to Mt. Vernon, Missouri in 1989, and Marie worked for Dr. Luis Hinojosa for several years.
Marie and Roger were loyal Mt. Vernon Mountaineers Boosters. For over 30 years, Marie and Roger would attend several football and basketball games with their lifelong friends, Efton and Barbara Stokes. Always wearing their high school “green.”
Marie is survived by her daughter, Brenda Kerr of Trenton, North Carolina; son, Brent Kerr and his wife, Julie of Camarillo, California; half-sister, Barbara Faye Andrews of Miller, Missouri; sister-in-law, Jerlene Scott of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Kerr; her daughter, Deborah Sue Kerr; her parents, Grover Spencer Scarbrough and Frances Adeline Lawson; three brothers: Grover Junior Scarbrough, Robert Wayne Scarbrough and William “Billy” Lee Scarbrough; and half-brother, Robert “Bobby” Lee Lawson.
A graveside service, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Spirit of ’76 Mt. Vernon City Park.
