Herbert James (Herb) Meirick

Herbert James (Herb) Meirick, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:05 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021, at his home.  He was born December 15, 1947, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Walter and Agnes Rose (Miller) Meirick.
Herb was a 1967 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and track.  He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam war.  He was stationed in Buon Ma Thuot, Vietnam and was a flight engineer on a CH47 Schnook.  Herb was a custom home builder and the owner/operator of the Meirick Thermal Concrete Homes.  He did a lot of concrete work and was known as the concrete man.  He loved to fly, pitch horseshoes, and was a member of the St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
On April 25, 1986, he married Klista Breidenstein in Miami, Oklahoma.
Herb is survived by his wife of 35 years, Klista; one son, Chad Meirick and his wife, Christy, of Mt. Vernon; two stepdaughters, Marsi Cameron of Mt. Vernon and Jenni Dalton and her husband, Jackie, of Carthage, Missouri; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Meirick and his wife, Holly, of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Carolyn Spradling of Springfield, Missouri, Kaye Woods and her husband, Walter, of Stotts City, Missouri and Jane Nelson and her husband, Glenn, of Mt. Vernon; three sisters-in-law, Joanie Meirick of Frisco, California, Judy Meirick of Raytown, Missouri and Linda Meirick of Lebanon, Missouri; son-in-law, Jerry Burks of Mt. Vernon and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Agnes, daughter, Dawn Burks, three brothers, Joe, Bob and Dave Meirick and brother-in-law, Mart Spradling.
A private family service will be held at the Rock Prairie Cemetery in Halltown, Missouri.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the ALS Association, in care of the funeral home.
