James W. “Jim” McNeely

James W. “Jim” McNeely, age 95, died Saturday August 31, 2019 at Mt. Vernon Place Care Center. Jim was born on February 16, 1924 in Princeton, Kentucky. He was the son of Allie and Estelle (Tosh) McNeely. After graduation from Glenwood High School in Glenwood, Iowa, Jim moved to Pasadena, California where he attended, and graduated from the Pasadena Nazarene College. While in college, he met the “love of his life” Dorothy Bearden. They were married April 23, 1944 at the Pasadena Church of the Nazarene.
Over the course of his lifetime, Jim served as a minister for the Church of the Nazarene in California, Colorado and Missouri. He worked for the Church Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. He then worked for the Welfare Department in Arizona and California and then he dedicated himself to writing stories and photography.
Jim is survived by his daughter: Kathy Anderson, of Mt. Vernon; son-in law Rick Pendleton, of Miller; sister, Charlene Coffey; grandchildren, Robert McNeely, James (Becky) Blanchard, Michelle (Clifton) Textor and Eric (Amy) Schmidt; great-grandchildren, James, Johnathon (Dana), Jennifer (Will), Ali (Rob), Victoria, Londyn, Anna and Daniel; great-great-grandchildren, Zailey, Cael, Christopher, Damarion, Jordan, Lexi and Elayna; several in-laws, nieces and nephews and a very special family, who are more like family than friends, Mark and Mary Adams and their children: Dustin (Aimmi), Kelly (Sarah), Melissa (Dr. Travis) Hawks and grandchildren: Zeb (Courtney), Kaila, Aurora, Cael, Cambree, Cade and Caislee and many other friends and family members.
Jim was preceded in death by: his parents, Allie (1929), Estelle (1987); stepdad, Charles Radford (1961); wife, Dorothy McNeely (2005); daughter, Cyndra “Cyndie” Pendleton (8/19/2019); brothers, Wilbur and Hodge; and several other family members.
I would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to my brother-in-law, Rick Pendleton, and the staff at Autumn Court and the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center for the loving kindness, shown by each of you, while taking care of my Dad.
