On May 16, 2025, Joseph Earl Snyder of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, a cherished brother, uncle, and friend went to be with Jesus at the age of 70. He was born on October 7, 1954, in Monett, Missouri to the late Earl and Naomi Snyder.
Joe was born with Down Syndrome and lived a full and meaningful life and was loved by many. He attended the Barry-Lawrence County Development Center. After graduation in June 1975, Joe began work at the sheltered workshop in Monett. He formed many friendships and enjoyed the work until he left in order to provide care for his mother.
Joe’s life involved many interests. He participated in Special Olympics bowling tournaments and won many trophies and ribbons. He loved drawing house plans and coloring scriptural cards he shared with people he cared about. He enjoyed copying whole chapters of the Bible and listening to religious music and sermons on his radio. Joe stopped what he was doing every day at 4:00 pm and prayed for people on his prayer list. He participated in an art class with his dear friend, Dylan, taught by his cherished teacher, Sandra Campbell. Joe was a member of Summit Baptist Church, where he participated in the choir, was an usher, and helped collect the offering.
Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, Earl and Naomi Snyder and his sister Judith Edwards. He is survived by his two sisters, Alma Anne Koch and Joyce Sorenson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life at Summit Baptist Church on August 16, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Republic Special Olympics, 636 N. Main St., Republic, MO 65738. Please notate "Republic Special Olympics" on checks or envelopes containing cash.
