Kathryn “Katy” Cuendet, 95, of Monett passed away on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, while at Oak Pointe in Monett with her family at her side. She was born on April 16, 1928, in Monett, the daughter of the late Robert and Barbara (Hoffelder) Grass.
She was a graduate of the Monett High School class of 1945 and Monett Jr. College. Shortly after graduating from high school she began a 44-year career in banking. She began at Gillioz Bank and Trust Company in 1946 and retired in 1990 from UMB Bank as vice-president. She gave back to her community as much as she could and volunteered for many years with Loaves and Fishes and was on the Crosslines board.
She married the love of her life, Gaylord Wayne Cuendet, on May 9, 1948, in Monett. Together they owned and operated Cuendet Garden, a ‘Fresh Vegetable’ store and a very popular autumnal ‘Pumpkin Patch’. As a family, they embraced the fellowship of the First Presbyterian Church in Monett, always lending a hand in projects or events to help the community.
She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Gay (Cliff) Brownlee of Muldrow, Okla.; her grandson, Travis Ash and Ashley Bremer and her son of Monett; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gaylord Cuendet; three brothers, Art Grass, Richard Grass and Ernie Grass; and one sister, Margaret Jackson.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Waldensian Cemetery in Monett with Mike Garrett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been requested to the First Presbyterian Church in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
