Lawrence County goes for Trump, other Republicans at polls

Republican candidates win roughly 80 percent of Lawrence County votes, many initiatives pass statewide

Former and once again President Elect Donald Trump won a decisive victory at the nation’s polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to secure his return to the White House and the highest office in the land. He took 312 votes in the Electoral College, 42 more than the 270 required to win the presidency; his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, won 226. Trump also won the popular vote, with 75,142,705 Americans voting for him at the polls, or 50.3 percent. Harris won 71,881,312 votes, or 48.1 percent.
Missouri, and Lawrence County, followed suit. Statewide, Trump won over 1.7 million votes, or about 58.4 percent, to win the states 10 Electoral College votes, while Harris won about 1.19 million votes, or about 40 percent.
Lawrence County voters overwhelmingly voted for Trump. He won 14,987 votes in the county, or about 81 percent, while 3,245 votes, or 17.64 percent, were cast for Harris.
Lawrence County voters also largely supported other Republican candidates for national and statewide offices, as did much of Missouri. However, where the Missouri State constitutional amendments and Proposition A were concerned, the results in Lawrence County were almost the complete opposite of the statewide results. Lawrence County voters opposed Proposition A and all of the constitutional amendments except for Constitutional Amendment Six, which would have amended the state constitution to “to preserve funding of law enforcement personnel for the administration of justice.” Lawrence County voters also voted in favor of Constitutional Amendment Seven, which amended the Missouri State Constitution to allow only U.S. Citizens to vote, prohibited ranked voting and required “the plurality winner of a political party primary to be the single candidate at a general election.” That amendment passed in Missouri.
Statewide, Proposition A and all of the amendments, except for Constitutional Amendment Five and Constitutional Amendment Six, were approved.
