Local shop Home Computer Repair celebrates 25 years

Randy and Deanna McElveen, owners of Home Computer Repair & Game Over Games, shown right, pose for a picture inside their store. The couple recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of their business with an Alaskan cruise.
Randy McElveen said that during their 25 years in business, he and Deanna had seen some major changes in the industry.
“The biggest change is that we used to work on computers all day long and maybe a laptop every week, and now we work on smartphones, tablets and watches,” he said.
The technology itself has also majorly changed, he added.
“(Computers today are) extremely faster (and have) more capacity,” he said. You know, we used to think that having half a gig of RAM (random access memory) was an insane amount of RAM in the computer back when we first started. And now, we build computers with 128 gigs or more of RAM.”
As to the longevity of their business, Randy said he and Deanna have worked hard to keep up with the innovations in the computer industry.
“(We’ve been) just staying in the trenches and working on computers all the time,” he said.”(We’ve) done a lot of researching (and read) a lot of trade magazines.”
Home Computer Repair & Game Over Games are located located at 208 E. Water Street, on the north side of the Mt. Vernon town square. For more information, call (417)466-3316, or visit their Facebook page.
