Marching Moutaineers 2024 Competitive Marching Band Season - a look back
The Mt. Vernon High School Marching Mountaineers have had a very competitive season indeed. They competed in two festivals, hosted their own festival, and capped off their season as Class 3 State Runner-Up. On Saturday, Sept. 21, they started their competition season in the Carl Junction Marching Festival hosted by Carl Junction High School. They finished 1st place Class B, Outstanding Color Guard Class B, Outstanding Percussion Class B and 7th place in the finals. They then competed in the Valhalla Marching Festival hosted by Parkview High School on Saturday, Oct. 5, where they finished 2nd place Class B, Outstanding Percussion Class B, and 10th place in finals. They then traveled to Blair Oaks High School on Saturday, Oct. 19, for the Missouri State Marching Association Marching Festival for state competition where they finished as a State Finalist, 2024 Class 3 State Runner-Up, and Outstanding Percussion Class 3. Also, the percussion section was rewarded with an Outstanding Percussion Caption Award in every marching festival they attended this year. This means that within their class, they were the best percussion section everywhere they went.
In addition to the competitions they also traveled to Columbia and performed at halftime of a Mizzou Tigers game along with over 800 other high school band students from Missouri as well as the University of Missouri's Marching Band, "Marching Mizzou" on Sept. 7, hosted their own Marching Festival on Saturday, Sept. 28, and performed in the annual Apple Butter Makin' Days Parade along with the seventh and eighth grade band students on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The band is directed by Alex Weinzierl and Jack Milzarek with Color Guard instruction by Lauren Byrne.
