The Monett Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has appointed Suzy McElmurry as interim executive director.
McElmurry succeeds Jasmine Burks, who was placed on administrative leave without explanation in March.
McElmurry joined the Monett Chamber in 2003 and retired in 2013. She worked closely with Chamber President Sharon Garrett in developing innovative programs such as the Festival of Lights, the Festival of Flavors, and the Monett Leadership program. She said she initially agreed to return to answer the phone during the chamber’s interim leadership before accepting more responsibilities.
“McElmurry brings more than 30 years of chamber and community development experience, including 12 years previously serving as executive director of the Monett Chamber,” according to a release by the chamber board.
She holds a degree from the University of Texas and certifications from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Tourism Marketing, Leadership Development, and Chamber Management.
“The chamber is truly the pulse of a community,” McElmurry stated. “It implements projects and policies for the members and the community’s benefit. Economic development and retention of existing industries are of utmost importance. I look forward to working with our members and community partners to continue supporting local businesses and strengthening Monett.”
With McElmurry on staff, the chamber office will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., unless otherwise noted. The office phone at 417-235-7919 is available. Additional information is available online at monettchamber.com.
“The Chamber would like to express our gratitude for the continued support of the business community and looks forward to ongoing partnerships,” the release added.
