Meredith Kay Johnston

Meredith Kay Johnston, 77, of Mt. Vernon passed away April 24, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan Meredith and Blanche Loretta (Gray) Alftine.
Johnston was a 1962 graduate of Greene County High School in Jefferson, Iowa. She worked as a community specialist for OCAC, from 1978 until 1997, serving Lawrence and Stone counties.  She retired from the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon where she worked as a rehabilitation specialist from 1997 until 2007.
Johnston is survived by one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson and her niece, Gale (Rod) Mease of Reeds Spring. Johnston was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nickole Beth Wright and sisters, Sue Ellen Thede, Phyllis Borst and Audry Carlson.
No services are planned at this time.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon.
