A Miller resident is currently free on bond following his arrest for alleged sexual abuse. Robert L. Johnson is accused of sexually touching a woman at his farm on July 1, 2019, by “slapping her butt and grinding her without (her) consent,” according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
According to the probable cause statement filed by the investigator, the woman came to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office on July 2, 2019 and said she wanted to make a report of “unwanted sexual touching” by Johnson. The investigator reported the woman stated Johnson always treated her differently than two other females at his farm, but she never thought anything about it until July 1, when he checked to make sure everyone else was gone. The woman stated Johnson told her he had grabbed her buttocks a couple of days earlier on June 29 while they were looking at tack at the woman’s neighbors’ residence; she said she thought it had been her boyfriend who had grabbed her at that time. The woman said Johnson then proceeded to “grab and slap her butt again,” and Johnson tried to hold her close to him and she tried to pull away from him. She also reported Johnson ignored her demands to leave her alone.
According to the probable cause statement, the woman reported Johnson asked the woman if she was scared, and she said she told him “Yes” and to leave her alone. She said she felt scared that Johnson would get hostile if she left, so she continued to do what she was doing. The woman also said Johnson came up behind her, grabbed her buttocks and started “grinding” on her; she also said he told her if her boyfriend hadn’t been with them on June 29, what he would be doing to her.
The woman also reported as she was hosing a horse off, Johnson stated, “So you seriously are not going to let me fool around with you?” When woman said she replied, “No,” and then Johnson smacked her buttocks again, saying, “Well, that’s sure a shame.”
The woman said she left and told Johnson’s wife that she would not be returning.
The investigator reported he called Johnson on Jan. 3, 2020, to speak with him about the incident. Johnson denied it, stating he never slapped the woman on the buttocks “because that is what got him in trouble once before.”
The investigator also reported that Johnson said, “I had said some things to her the night before because we had gone out and kind of partied together, think that she was interested, and I drew the wrong conclusion.”
Johnson, 63, was arrested and booked into the Lawrence County Jail on Tuesday, Jan 7, on a charge of Sexual Abuse; he was released on a $3,000 bond shortly afterwards.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Sex Offender Registry, Johnson is a Tier Three offender, and has a status of compliant, meaning he has registered as required. Information from the registry states Johnson committed sexual assault against a 14-year-old girl in Middleton, Conn. on July 1, 1995. According to the criminal complaint, he was convicted of this crime on Oct. 12, 1999.
