Monett Fly-In draws crowds to regional airport, free plane rides offered

Parking at the Monett Regional Airport on Saturday, June 5, was stretched to capacity as residents gathered to see a couple dozen airplanes at the scheduled fly-in. Last year’s event was rained out, and the skies cleared shortly after the scheduled opening for a busy day. Airport Board chairman Brian Hunter said the event offered an opportunity to see what a resource the airport offers, displayed on posters proclaiming the facility generates more than $13 million in economic activity each year through the 6,001-foot runway that provides jet service. Mayor Randy Burke provided a welcome. The Monett Lions Club helped to serve a pancake breakfast. Free plane rides were offered. (Murray Bishoff photo)
