Mt’neer legend Klein lands head coach job with Clever Bluejays

Zack Klein was one of the all-time greats during his stint as a Mt’neer basketballer from 2006-2010. Now, he will find his home about 25 minutes east in the halls of Clever High School as the new head coach for the Bluejays.
Klein was one of, if not the, best basketball players in Mt. Vernon history, landing in the top five of almost every offensive category for a career including No. 2 in points with 2,213 in his career. Even more impressive, he has three of the top 10 individual season scoring outputs, starting with 553 his sophomore year (good for 10th all-time), 566 his junior year (good for ninth all-time), and 705 his senior year. That mark, set in 2010, still stands as the Mt. Vernon record for points in a season.
Klein was previously the head coach of Cassville, leading the Wildcats to a 4-21 record in the brutal Big 8 Mt’neer fans are all too familiar with.
Klein will have his work cut out for him as he will take over for a Bluejay squad that went 3-22 a year ago and graduated three seniors and their two leading scorers. Clever has some young talent but they will have to find size to compete immediately.
