Mt. Vernon Lady Mt’neers Softball Preview
Coach: Matt Schubert
2018 Record: 18-9
Players Lost to Graduation: Alane Cordray, Kendra Foulk, Megan Mynatt and Emily Myers.
Returning Players: Lyndsey Hood, Lauren Herbert, Cydney Short, Michaela McChesney, Madison Schubert, Katelyn Kotlarz, Raegan Prescott, Raelin Swillum, Harper Looney, Kassidy Anderson, Emilee Smith and Tasha Collins.
Outlook: After losing in a thrilling district title game to a strong Pierce City team, the Lady Mt’neers are hungry to get back to that level again. Gone are two strong leaders on and off the field, Alane Cordray and Kendra Foulk. But with eight starters back, Mt. Vernon head coach Matt Schubert thinks good things are in store for this team from the beginning of the season all the way to a deep run in the spring softball state playoffs. The Lady Mt’neers will lean on their five seniors, which include Hood, Herbert, Short, McChesney and Schubert to keep this team trending upward throughout the 2019 season.
Worth Noting: Mt. Vernon has advanced to at least the district championship game in each of the last five seasons. One freshman addition, Hadley Cornell, is being looked at heavily to fill an opening at the shortstop position for the Lady Mt’neers.
